Terms of use

Plain rules for a shared map: be honest, be kind, label what’s paid, and apply directly with the companies you like.
01About these terms
These terms apply when you use Ascent’s website and services. By using Ascent, you agree to them. If you use Ascent on behalf of a company — for example to manage a startup profile — you confirm you’re allowed to accept them for that company.
How we handle personal data is explained in our privacy policy and cookie policy.
02Using the service
- Browsing is free and doesn’t need an account.
- An account lets you save searches, get alerts, follow startups, write reviews and manage a startup profile. Keep access to your email secure — it’s how you sign in.
- You must be at least 16 to create an account.
- We may change, pause or stop parts of the service. We’ll give reasonable notice of significant changes to paid features.
03Startup listings
Profiles are built from public sources — company websites, public careers pages and job boards — and from information owners give us. We work to keep them accurate, but we can’t guarantee every detail is complete or current.
- Anyone who works at a listed startup can claim its profile for free and correct it.
- Profiles marked Verified have been checked with the company.
- Owners are responsible for what they publish, and must have the right to use any logos, images and text they upload.
- We may edit, hide or remove a listing that is inaccurate, misleading, out of scope or breaks these terms.
- If you want your company removed, email hello@tryascent.tech.
04Jobs and applications
Roles link to the company’s own website or applicant tracking system. You apply directly with the company — Ascent doesn’t receive, process or forward applications, and isn’t party to any hiring decision. Salary, visa and remote information comes from the company or its job posting; always confirm the details with the company before relying on them.
05Reviews and other content you post
Reviews of places to work, tips, submissions and edits help everyone. Please keep them:
- Honest and first-hand — about a place you have actually visited.
- About the place, not people — don’t name or describe staff or other customers, or share anyone’s personal data.
- Respectful — no hate speech, harassment, threats or discrimination.
- Free of conflicts and ads — no reviewing your own business or a competitor’s, no paid or incentivised reviews, no promotion or links.
- Lawful — nothing defamatory, infringing or illegal.
You keep ownership of what you post, and you give Ascent a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and adapt it (for example, to show it in a different layout) as part of the service. We may moderate, hide or remove content that breaks these rules, and content that several people report is hidden automatically until we review it.
06Featured placements and paid plans
Startups can pay for Featured placement, a Hiring Boost for a role, or a bundle of both. Paid placements are always labelled Featured (or Boosted for a boosted role) wherever they appear, so visitors can tell paid placement apart from everything else.
- Paying gives a placement in the spots described on the pricing page. It doesn’t change verification, reviews or the rest of a profile.
- The number of Featured slots per city is capped. When slots are full, we say so.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Prices are shown before you pay and include or add tax as stated at checkout.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your billing page; the placement continues until the end of the period you’ve paid for.
- One-off purchases run for the stated period. Refunds are given where the law requires them, or if we can’t provide what you paid for.
- We may decline or end a paid placement for a listing that breaks these terms; if we do so without fault on your side, we’ll refund the unused part.
07Acceptable use
Please don’t:
- Scrape, crawl or copy the service beyond what our robots.txt allows, or bulk-export listings, jobs or reviews.
- Use the service to send spam, or to contact people listed on it for unsolicited marketing.
- Interfere with the service, probe it for vulnerabilities without permission, or get around rate limits or bot checks.
- Impersonate a person or company, or claim a profile you don’t have the right to manage.
- Use the service for anything unlawful.

08Our content
The Ascent name, design, illustrations, maps styling and software belong to us or our licensors. Map data is provided by MapTiler and OpenStreetMap contributors under their own terms, shown on the map. You may link to any page and share it.
09Disclaimers and liability
Ascent is provided “as is”. We don’t promise that it will always be available or error-free, or that any listing, role, salary, visa detail or review is accurate. Decisions about jobs, companies and places are yours.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to a business customer is limited to the amount it paid us in the 12 months before the claim. If you use Ascent as a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights.
10Suspension and closing accounts
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, usually after a warning unless the breach is serious.
11Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
